School Counseling Statement of Philosophy
The counselor at Wiley Elementary School believes that:
School Counseling Mission Statement
The mission of the Wiley International Studies Elementary School counseling program is to provide a comprehensive, developmental counseling program addressing the academic, career and personal/social needs of all students. The school counselor will work in partnership with other educators, parents/guardians and the community to assure that all Wiley students will receive a quality educational program in a safe and inviting learning environment that encourages high achievement and the development of skills necessary to reach their potential as life-long learners and responsible global citizens.
The counselor at Wiley Elementary School believes that:
- all students have the ability to achieve;
- all students have the right to participate in the school counseling program;
- the counselor’s role is to serve as an advocate for every student;
- developmentally appropriate support, both preventive and responsive, will be provided to address students’ needs;
- resources including other educators, parent/guardians, and community representatives will be coordinated to deliver programs and activities;
- data will be used in the program development;
- the counseling program will be evaluated by a supervisor;
- professional school counseling ethics will be followed as advocated by the American School Counseling Association; and
- professional development activities will be pursued to maintain a quality school counseling program.
